« What is a SaaS (software as a service) Product »
SaaS (Software as a Service) is an application hosted on a remote server and accessed through the Internet.
Traditionally, the user purchases a software package and license by paying a one-time fee. The software thereby becomes the property of the user who made the purchase. Software support and updates are provided by the vendor or developer under the terms of the license agreement.
SaaS, on the other hand, does not have licenses. Rather than a single fee, payment for the use of software is through subscription. The user's access and use of the software ends when he stops paying subscription fees. Moreover, the software is not downloaded to the user's computer.
Key Advantages for the User are :
* It's quick and easy to deploy and requires no additional infrastructure investment other than a reliable Internet connection. The benefit of SaaS include:
* • No client or server software to install or maintain
* • No need to buy additional hardware or servers — instant scalability
* • Lower initial costs due to the monthly subscription model
* • Significantly shorter deployment times get you up and running in days, not weeks
* • Accessibility to the application from any Internet-connected computer
* • Always up-to-date with the latest features at no extra charge
* • No need to maintain a labor-intensive patch and upgrade process
* • Reduced reliance on IT staff for software support
